A FOCUS ON COLOUR

Originally investigating childhood, my final year university collection has narrowed in focus to examine the colour and pattern on everyday packaging from sweet wrappers to cereal packs. Colour, shape and typography have been used to collage and abstract motifs to create composition of bold large-scale shapes in a rich harmony of colour. This active sportswear collection of prints have been printed on stretch jerseys, mesh and nylons suitable for a contemporary sportswear market.

Research and Inspiration

My inspiration combines childhood nostalgia and bold graphic design. I explored parks and soft play areas for their playful shapes and energy, then looked at everyday packaging — especially Japanese wrappers with striking colours and typography. I also drew inspiration from the patterns on football shirts. Together, these elements informed my vibrant, graphic print direction.

Typography Exploration

In this exploration, laser-cut and transparent letterforms were layered to explore depth, transparency, and colour interaction, leading to the development of digital print designs.

Digital Print Samples

Screen Print Samples

I began by using pigment screen printing to create a bold base of colour and shape across the fabric. Flock and vinyl were then added on top to introduce texture, depth, and a playful surface quality to the samples.

AI Digital Design Mockups

These design mockups were created using AI, allowing me to explore compositions, scale and colourways quickly. Working digitally helped me visualise how my prints would sit on garments before creating physical samples.

Photoshop Mockups

I created these mockups in photoshop, applying my designs to football shirts and footballs. This allowed me to visualise the print placement, scale and overall visual impact before producing my final garment.
